The Didn't Ought Model

William Platz
14 June To 2 July 2016

Platz’s large-scale drawings address the dynamics and tensions between the artist/model, artist/performer and notions of drawing as performance. The works trace the marks and movements of the artist and model, giving substance and vitality to the life model and rendering the relationship between the artist and model visible.

The sketches depict scrawled images of androgynous figures in seemingly part-sexual acts, devouring one another in domestic and public locations. They embody the rawness of the drawing act itself; the fluid, contour lines, smudged surfaces explore and detail the meaty, fleshy bodies, documenting private acts through a voyeuristic lens.
